Appointment of Interim Director of the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study
Dear ÃÈÃÃÉçÇø Community,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Angela Pyle as Interim Director of the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study (JICS) for a one-year term beginning July 1, 2022.
Angela is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Psychology and Human Development, has led several funded research projects at JICS, and is an award-winning teacher in the Child Study and Education program. Her research explores the negotiated balance between academic learning and developmentally appropriate practices in classrooms, with a focus on the role of teacher curricular stance in pedagogical decision-making, the development of critical literacy skills through play-based learning, and how teachers’ assessment practices support and extend children’s learning in play-based contexts. Angela’s interim leadership of JICS will build upon past leadership roles such as her service as MA-CSE program chair and MA-CSE curriculum lead.
During Angela’s term as Interim Director, the Advisory Committee will continue its important work in selecting a Director of JICS for a term that will begin on July 1, 2023.
I am confident that Angela will make valuable contributions to JICS and ÃÈÃÃÉçÇø as Interim Director. Please join me in congratulating her and welcoming her to her new role!
Sincerely,
Normand Labrie, Ph.D., FRSC
Professor and Interim Dean
