Re: Appointment of Chair of the Department of Leadership, Higher and Adult Education
Dear ÃÈÃÃÉçÇø Community,
I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Creso Sá as Chair of the Department of Leadership, Higher and Adult Education for a five-year term beginning July 1, 2022. I would like to thank the members of the advisory committee for their important work in selecting a new Chair.
Professor Sá is an interdisciplinary social scientist who earned his PhD in Higher Education from Penn State University before joining ÃÈÃÃÉçÇø in 2006. In 2015 he was promoted to Full Professor and became inaugural Director of the Centre for the Study of Canadian and International Higher Education (CIHE). He has been Associate Chair of LHAE since July 1, 2020, when he was also awarded a 5-year term as Distinguished Professor of Science Policy, Higher Education and Innovation. As a leader in LHAE, he has developed a reputation for being supportive and empathetic, impartial, curious, collaborative, and an effective advocate for the department.
Professor Sá has an extensive publication record in top international journals in higher education and science policy, as well as scholarly books published by leading academic presses. He is co-author of Tapping the Riches of Science: Universities and the Promise of Economic Growth (Harvard University Press, 2009) and The Entrepreneurship Movement and the University (Palgrave Macmillan, 2015). In 2015, he was awarded the Research and Scholarship Award, conferred by the Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education. Professor Sá also has a strong record of supervision and mentorship, having supported 37 graduate students as supervisor and committee member.
Peers, funding bodies, professional associations, and the media seek Professor Sá’s expertise, nationally and internationally. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal of Higher Education and Associate Editor of the top-ranked international journal Studies in Higher Education. He is a regular referee for top journals in higher education, science and technology studies, management, and public policy. He served for eight years as an elected member of the Governing Board of the leading European scholarly society in higher education. Professor Sá is a public facing scholar who regularly contributes to policy dialogue. He writes a column on higher education and science policy for University Affairs and is an occasional contributor to the UK’s Times Higher Education. He has co-organized events and panels involving policy organizations such as NSERC, CFI, HEQCO, and the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities.
Please join me in congratulating Creso on his appointment and in welcoming him as the next Chair of LHAE!
Thank you,
Normand Labrie, Ph.D., FRSC
